Training Time

VA benefits are paid every month. This benefit is determined by the type of training program and the training time (i.e., full-time, part-time, etc.). The Veterans Administration uses the semester-hour classification scale to determine a veteran’s payment. Students are certified for the number of semester hours they enroll at New Mexico State University. Summer sessions are calculated differently from the fall and spring semesters.

Adjustments are made when a student stops attending a class. Federal law requires that students report any change in their enrollment status that might affect their VA education benefits to the school and the VA. Failure to report dropped classes can result in an overpayment. You must notify your VA School Certifying Official of any schedule changes.
