Military Experience Waiver

Credit When it's Due

The NMSU undergraduate catalog requires all students to take two 3-credit VWW upper-division courses.  These courses strongly emphasize the international character and multicultural influences in the fields of study and strengthen information retrieval skills.  One of the two courses (3 credits) can be replaced by Study Abroad Experience or be waived for Military Experience, by students who have served at least four weeks of U.S. Military Foreign/Sea Service in a foreign country.

STEPS NEEDED TO REQUEST A VWW MILITARY EXPERIENCE WAIVER

  • Obtain a copy of your DD Form 214 or Memo from your Commanding Officer proving your 4-week deployment
  • Provide an official copy to your college academic advisor to request a waiver
  • Wait for your college to approve and confirm
NOTE: Credits are not being waived, only one of the two courses is being waived within the requirement.  You may still need to complete three credits in consultation with your academic advisor.

CENTER FOR ACADEMIC ADVISING AND STUDENT SUPPORT (CAASS)

CAASS is the central hub for academic advising on campus.  All undergraduate students will be able to go to Garcia Center and find their academic advisor.  Academic advisors assist students as they become self-directed learners by teaching them to develop educational plans directed toward their academic, career, and personal aspirations.  CAASS provides a central location on campus where undergraduate students, no matter their major, can partner with an academic advisor.

How do I find out who my CAASS advisor is?

Refer to the Advising and Staff Directory under the CAASS website.  Please select your major and you will be provided with the name(s) of your academic advisor(s).  Please contact advising@nmsu.edu or 575-646-2941 if you are unable to find your advisor.
