VA benefits are paid on a monthly basis. This benefit is determined by the type of training program and the training time (i.e., full-time, part-time, etc.). The Veterans Administration uses the semester hour classification scale to determine a veteran’s payment. A student is certified for the number of semester hours that they enroll in at New Mexico State University. Summer sessions are calculated differently from the fall and spring semesters.
Adjustments are made when a student stops attending a class. Federal law requires that students report any change in their enrollment status which might affect their VA educational benefits to the school and to VA. Failure to report dropped classes can result in an overpayment. It is important that you notify your VA School Certifying Official of any schedule changes.
