American LegionThe American Legion offers a number of scholarships and other resources to assist young people in their pursuit of higher education. There are opportunities for everyone, including kin of wartime veterans and participants in Legion programs.

AMVETSAMVETS (or American Veterans) has a proud history of assisting veterans and sponsoring numerous programs that serve our country and its citizens. AMVETS awards scholarships totaling $40,000 to deserving high school seniors, ROTC students and veterans pursuing higher education.

FAFSAFederal Student Aid, a part of the U.S. Department of Education, is the largest provider of student financial aid in the nation. If your parent died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after the events of 9/11, you might be eligible for additional Federal Pell Grant funding or for an Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant.

sva_googleStudent Veterans of America & Google have partnered to provide eight (8) $10,000 scholarships to student veterans via SVA’s network! Eligible students must be pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Computer Science, or a closely related field.

Pat TillmanFounded in 2004, the mission of the Pat Tillman Foundation is to invest in military veterans and their spouses through educational scholarships; building a diverse community of leaders committed to service to others. Program is open to sons and daughters of active duty, reserve/guard, or retired military commissary customers.

Developed by Student Information Management, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and designed in collaboration with NMSU Foundation and The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services, Scholar Dollar$ is the one application for all NMSU scholarships.

VFWThe Veterans of Foreign Wars’ “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” will provide service members and veterans with the financial assistance they need to complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt.

Wartime Combat Veteran Scholarship. Can be used by any veteran who has served in combat since 1990 and who has exhausted all available federal G.I. Education Benefits options. Veterans must apply through the NM Department of Veteran Services, with the Veterans’ Service Officer (VSO) J.R. Turner, at jr.turner@state.nm.us or (575) 524-6220.
