Information for New Students

nsrAggie Welcome and Orientation (AWO) is designed to provide new incoming undergraduate students, including freshmen and transfer students, with information about student services, academic advisement, and registration for classes in order to facilitate a smooth transition to NMSU. At the end of orientation, you will have your class schedule, NMSU ID, new friends and a solid framework for success!

It is MANDATORY for all first time NMSU undergraduate students to complete orientation before registering for classes. New students will have a choice between attending a one-day or a two-day session. If students do not make a reservation for the orientation program, they are not guaranteed participation in orientation or an appointment to meet with an academic advisor in their area of interest. Register for Orientation.

If you are unable to attend a face-to-face orientation program, you must petition for an exemption. A petition needs to be submitted in order to have your orientation hold removed so you may register for classes. Once the petition is submitted, the Aggie Welcome and Orientation program will make a decision and contact you within 2 business days.

For more information about the program, dates, one-day and two-day program agenda, and/or to register for an orientation, visit Aggie Welcome and Orientation.

Research Before You Choose

Choosing the right school can be tough, but research first so that you can make an informed decision.

The College Scorecard is a planning tool and resource to assist prospective students and their families as they evaluate options in selecting a school.

The College Navigator is a consumer tool that provides school information to include tuition and fees, retention and graduation rates, use of financial aid, student loan default rates and features a cost calculator and school comparison tool.

The Financial Aid Shopping Sheet is a model aid award letter designed to simplify the information that prospective students receive about costs and financial aid so they can easily compare institutions and make informed decisions about where to attend school.

The Paying for College webpage can be used by prospective students to enter the names of up to three schools and receive detailed financial information on each one and to enter actual financial aid awarded information.
